WVSAM Account

WVSAM is the new student portal to submit applications* for state financial aid, check the status of your application, ask questions, upload documents, and view your award information.

Follow these step-by-step instructions and watch the quick tutorial video for helpful tips on entering your information accurately. You can also save these instructions for future reference.

Log In to WVSAM/Create Account

Important: Only the Student Should Create a WVSAM Account

Students must create their own WVSAM account.
Parents, guardians, counselors, or others should not create an account on the student’s behalf.

Instructions to Create a WVSAM Account

Step 1: Start Your Account

Step 2: Enter Your Information

  • Fill in your First Name, Last Name, and Email Address.
  • Complete all required fields to finish your profile.

TIP: Use a personal email address you will have long-term access to—this email will be your username.

Step 3: Check Your Email

  • Look for a “Welcome to WVSAM” email.
  • Click the link in the email to set up your password.
  • Don’t forget to check your spam/junk.

Step 4: Log in and Apply

  • Log in with your email and password.
  • Click “New” under My Applications and select an aid program to start your application.
  • Once your application is complete, you will receive a confirmation email with next steps and your application will show under “My Applications”.
  • If you want to complete another application, click “New” under My Application again.
  • You can monitor the processing of your application. Check out this video to learn how to check the status.

    • You may already have an account. Check your email for the Welcome to WVSAM email. If you cannot find it, contact us at 304.558.4618 or wvfinancial@wvhepc.edu.

Granting Permission to Discuss Your Application

If you’d like to allow someone (like a parent or guardian) to discuss your application with us:

  1. Log in to your WVSAM account.
  2. Click your name under My Contact Information.
  3. Click Update My Contact Information.
  4. Click Next until you reach the Parent/Guardian/Other Contact Information section.
  5. Enter contact information for up to two people you want to authorize.

*You must create a WVSAM Account to apply for HEAPS Workforce, Promise Scholarship, STAND Program, WV Invests Grant, WV Nursing Scholarship, WV STEM Scholarship, and Underwood-Smith Teacher Loan Forgiveness and can monitor the progress of those applications as well as Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars applications. For details about when applications open and deadline, click Programs at the top of this page, navigate to the program name and click Apply Now.

*To apply for the HEAPS Grant Program, contact the financial aid office at your institution.

*Apply for the Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars Program starting July 15 through December 31 each year. You may monitor the progress of your application by logging in to WVSAM.
