Star Scholars

Set yourself up for success by becoming a CFWV Star Scholar!  Scholars who complete the three postsecondary milestones will be recognized at the end of the school year with a graduation cord. To be recognized, scholars must complete the requirements below.

Apply to a Postsecondary Pathway

A postsecondary pathway is a planned route a person follows after high school to gain education, training, or credentials that lead toward a career.  It includes: 

  • College or university degrees (associate’s, bachelor’s, and beyond) 
  • Career and technical education (certificates) 
  • Apprenticeships (work-based learning opportunities) 
  • Workforce training programs (licensing or industry certifications) 
  • Military service (with education/training components) 

These pathways, or programs, credentials, and experiences help to connect high school to further qualifications and eventual employment.  

Complete and File the FAFSA

To qualify for financial aid, you must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the most important step you will take towards meeting your postsecondary goals because all federal financial aid programs, most programs offered by the state of West Virginia, and many programs offered by colleges require you to submit the FAFSA. The FAFSA is free and easy to fill out! You can file the FAFSA for the 2027-2028 academic school year by visiting studentaid.gov/FASFA 

Complete and Submit the West Virginia Invests Grant Application or the Promise Scholarship Application

The West Virginia Invests Grant and the Promise Scholarship are both state aid programs that make attending an in-state school more affordable. To learn more about the Invests Grant and the Promise Scholarship, visit cfwv.com.
