Special Departmental Admissions Requirements

If you are applying for admission to the programs in art, music, nursing, or teacher education, you must satisfy additional admissions requirements as indicated below:

Art Please contact the chair of the Art Department for the portfolio review dates.

Music Auditions are required. Auditions are held each spring. Please contact the chair of the Department of Music for audition information.

Nursing If you are applying for admission to the nursing program, you must complete a separate nursing department admissions application during your sophomore year. Please refer to the Shepherd University Catalog for additional grade point average, test scores, and high school unit requirements for admission. Applicants for admission to the bachelor's degree program should submit the nursing application by March 1 for fall admission and October 1 for spring admission.

Teacher Education If you have attained, from a single administration, a composite score of 25 on the American College Test (ACT), 26 on the ACT enhanced (effective November 1989), 1035 on the SAT Reasoning Test (SAT) or 1125 on the re-centered SAT (effective April 1995), you are exempt from the required Pre-professional Skills Tests (PPST). If you 1) hold certification through the NBPTS; 2) hold or have held a West Virginia Professional Certificate; or 3) hold a master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, you are also exempt.   This requirement (PPST) applies to all freshman, transfer, and readmitted student applicants. If you already have a bachelor's degree and are seeking teacher certification, you must apply for admission to Shepherd as a transfer student and you must submit all required credentials in support of your admissions application by the required deadlines.
